A "Lund Pattern" ivory chess set,
England, mid 19th century,
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings surmounted with crosses, queens with reeded ball finials, bishops with open mitres, knights as horses' heads, rooks as monbloc turrets, pawns with baluster knops and ball finials (the chessmen with turned holes to the underside of the bases),in a leather and gilt-tooled oblong box,
the king 7cm high, the pawn 3cm high.
