Footnotes

  • Provenance: This and the following four lots are from the collection of Linda Grossman Garfunkel, companion and spouse, 1969-1975.

Simon and Garfunkel were multi-award winners in the 1971 Grammy awards. The single 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' was named as Record Of The Year, Best Contemporary Song and Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists. The album won Best Engineered Album and Album Of The Year.
The album title track was written in the summer of 1969, whilst Paul and Art were renting a house on Blue Jay Way in Los Angeles, the same house that had inspired George Harrison's song of the same name for the Beatles' 'Magical Mystery Tour' EP two years earlier.
