Cased Papier-mache shoulder head lady, German 1834
Beautifully moulded head with painted blue eyes, mouth and nostrils, moulded and painted black hairstyle with wisps and centre parting, moulded tuck comb and curls, on a miliner-type body with kid torso and carved wooden lower arms and feet with painted red slippers, wearing all-original cream gauze dress, with cape, underclothes and large bonnet, 54cm (21in) tall, in her wooden glass fronted case, inscribed to back, 'This doll was bought from Birmingham fair, May 14th 1834 by SL Bartham for her sister A E Bartham, put in this case Jan 4th 1836'.
