A rare 26-inch Fortuna orchestral coin-operated upright disc musical box,
circa 1900,
Ser. No. 24425,
with 'Sublime-Harmonie' combs, star-wheel extension to include five-hammer drum and single-hammer triangle selects, with 13-note reed organ accompaniment, on crater-cast gilt title bedplate with zig-zag coin chute behind, cast triangle bracket to the left on solid oak soundboard, massive single-spring motor and bellow chamber with oak frame and rear wind reservoir all with marbleised paper bellows, movement chamber now lacking top panel for motor view, in outstanding stained and polished incised walnut case, the pediment with title centre below scrolls and leaf appliqués, turned finials and petit balustrade gallery, minor blind dental moulded cornice and twin doors, each with very finely fretted insert panels with incised detail, the centres of the panels depicting musical instrument ensembles, green silk backdrops, flanked by half-turned columns, single frieze drawer below and further incising to panel above, on plain plinth base and small turned feet, general highlights in parcel gilt throughout the case detail, with the original crank handle, with 6 discs (one of which is playable) - 58in. (147cm) high
