A rare Meissen and micro-mosaic clad gilt metal singing bird box,
German, circa 1910,
with going-barrel movement, the bird with yellow, burnt brown and black feathered plumage, iridescent orange and lime green highlights, moving metal beak, body, wings and tailfeather to continuous birdsong, rising through pierced and tooled gilt grille, the lid with mounted Meissen relief panel of a Romanesque maiden, marked on the inside with the double cross and impressed with *taatliche, in tall serpentine casket case, the top with quintuplet baulles and twin intertwined ribbon scrolls over rope-twist edge, the front and rear panels with four oval micro-mosaic studies of classical ruins each held with tri-claw mounts, repeating ribbon appliques, hasp mount to the front above bracket support and free double rope-twist apron joining the scrolled feet, start/stop pull to side, with a period carriage clock key - 4.1/2in. (11.5cm) wide
