Footnotes

  • Condition: G III 2

The French export stamp, seen on the base edge, is a left-facing portrait of a man and was used between 1819 and 1838. After this period, it changed to a right-facing portrait of a woman with a prefix number in the bottom-right corner.

The chasing on the casework, although silver-gilt, is in places of the same calibre to that of a gold example by the famous maker Jean-Georges Rémond. His work in gold usually comprised repeating decreasing circles on a petit-point ground, with the border of a flower and leaf swag almost the same as seen here on this piece.
