A silver-gilt singing bird box, by Charles Bruguier,
circa 1843,
No. 327, with fusee movement, the bird with predominant tones of turquoise, blood red and apple green feathered plumage, iridescent highlights in green with gentle undertones of orange, moving bone beak, head, wings and tailfeather to continuous birdsong from the eight-cam stack (ciphering), movement underside plate signed C. Bruguier A Geneve 327, in addition to numerous serial number inscriptions, rising through finely tooled and pierced gilt grille, lid interior featuring busy central medallion of a lyre, harp, bust, French horn and musical score amongst flowers and leaves on Royal blue enamel ground, shaped border with zig-zag chased edge, the lid top with domed enamel study of a rustic country dwelling surrounded by trees on an island in a lake, shored boats before a cottage coming into view on the left foreground, with rising mountains on the far side into the distance, shaped border with large C scroll compass points in white enamel and curtain-fold infils in blue, double banded edge with repeated star-block pattern, the silver-gilt case with the main top featuring opposing floral swag sprays before slightly raised rococo cut away relief with crosshatch ground, micro laurel-leaf border and shaped corners to continuous rosebud frieze, the front and sides bearing similar crosshatch panels flanking the vertical stem chased corner columns, raised on intertwining blind arches, the underside with the themed ground complimenting the large oval cartouche with poppy, daffodil and bluebell-head spray, hidden key compartment to rear, shaped start/stop button to front centre, with period ratchet key in original fitted red leather travelling case - 3.3/4in. (9.5cm) wide, the case 5.1/8in. (13cm)
