The lot also comes with 1939-1945 Star (2); Atlantic Star; Africa Star; Defence Medal; War Medal. Some wear to the first four, otherwise very fine or better. (11)

    Warrant Officer Arthur Edward Smith joined up in March 1913 as 1.A.M. of No.5 Squadron and served in France from 14th August 1914. He reverted to Sergeant (Fitter AE) on 27th December 1917, and retrained that rank and trade in 1918 RAF Muster Roll. Served in North Russia in 1919 and awarded Air Force Medal in the London Gazette of 22nd December 1919. He was then postedas Flight Sergeant to the North West Frontier of India earning IGS Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919. On 4th October 1933, as Warrant Officer 2nd Class he was posted to No.1 School of Technical Training at Halton Camp. Promoted to Warrant Officer Class 1 with effect from 6th April 1935. He was awarded the Silver Jubilee 1935. He was still serving in 1938 and with the medal riband on the mounting bar into WW2.
