A Flemish 18-Bore Flintlock Holster Pistol
By P. Hallet, Circa 1680
With three-stage barrel (probably slightly shortened), octagonal breech decorated with shaped recessed panels along the top flats, foliate engraved tang, signed border engraved rounded lock (cock and one side-nail replaced) engraved with foliage and chiselled with slender foliate scrolls on the tail and steel, moulded figured full-stock (fore-end split, minor repairs) carved with scrollwork on either side at the rear ramrod-pipe and barrel tang, steel mounts comprising scroll side-plate pierced and chiselled with foliage terminating in a monster-head and two grotesque heads, vacant escutcheon with pierced and chiselled foliate border, a pair of entwined serpents above, spurred pommel decorated en suite with the lock on each side, trigger-guard, turned baluster ramrod-pipes, the rear one with shaped finial chiselled with foliage, and later steel-capped ramrod (some wear and rust patination overall)
