William Conway Gordon (1798-1882), full-length, wearing the uniform of an A.D.C., signed and dated '1836', watercolour on card 35 x 23cm (13 3/4 x 9 1/16in).
William Conway Gordon was the natural son of Lord William Gordon. He entered the Bengal service in 1815, belonging to the 53rd Native Infantry. The present lot was painted when he was A.D.C. to Sir Peregrine Maitland in Madras. He returned to England in 1842.
