A mid 19th century aquamarine and ruby snake necklace, circa 1840
The snake's head of finely engraved acanthus leaf and floral decoration, set with a pear-shaped aquamarine crest and cabochon ruby eyes, suspending an engraved vine leaf and oval mixed-cut aquamarine pendant from its mouth, to a fancy-link chain, length 40.8cm.
