  • Sir John Moore (1620-1702) was Lord Mayor from 1681-2, President of Christ's Hospital and a member of the East India Company Committee from 1669-1701. Born in Appleby, Leicestershire, he became the most influential exporter in London of lead, taking it from Derbyshire to Yorkshire, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. He died in 1702 with no children passing his large fortune to his nephews.
