A rare mid 19th century English gilt brass and coromandel mortar timepiece

The barrel finely engraved with a martial trophy group comprising flags, cannon, muskets, helmet and a drum, the silvered Roman dial modelled as a cannon ball mounted in the muzzle, the chapter bordered by concentric engraved bands, beneath a convex glass, mounted on the shaped coromandel base, together with the original elevation block, the single barrel movement with lever escapement signed 'Thos Cole London' to the backplate, the case stamped 1589 to the underside of the barrel 19cm (7.5in) high
