Footnotes

  • Jack Heuer looked for new direct sponsoring possibilities in motorsports and from 1962 to 1965 he lent the SCCA ("Sports Car Club of America") timekeeping devices to track the 12-hour races in Sebring.

Heuer supported BRM, Lotus, March, McLaren beside other sports car and Formula 1 racing teams. The motorsport sponsoring breakthrough came due to Heuer's cooperation with the Scuderia Ferrari team between 1971 and 1979. Heuer achieved a demanding level of timekeeping accuracy, and Ferrari placed the Heuer logo on the front of their race cars competing in Formula One and endurance racing. Every Formula One driver of the Scuderia wore the Heuer logo at shoulder-height on his race suit between 1971 and 1979 which is shown in many period racing photographs.

Jack Heuer said that his favourite was the 18ct gold Carrera automatic chronograph reference 1158 which he had personally presented to each Ferrari Formula One driver. He said: 'These watches have a deep emotional meaning for me, as we have lost drivers to racing accidents'. The watch has the more desirable black date as worn by the racing drivers Niki Lauda, Clay Regazzoni, Ronnie Peterson and others.

This watch is in new old stock condition with a perfect gold control mark between the pushers and original Heuer strap, box and papers complete this amazing set.
