Footnotes

  • An important component of success at the start of a regatta is the timing and position in relation to competitors when crossing the starting line. For this task, accurate timekeeping is required so that the boat can cross the starting line at full tilt in ideal circumstances. The Heuer Skipper provides this capability. Characteristic of the Skipper is the red, white and blue 15-minute sub-register and a minute countdown function eases legibility prior to the start of the race.

Most Skipper models share the Autavia case design and the dial with the characteristic large minute subdial was unique to the Skipper. Originally hand-wound and powered by the Valjoux 7730 an automatic watch was added in 1972, driven by the new Calibre 15 automatic movement. The name 'Skipper' was positioned at 9 o'clock with a small second-dial at 10 o'clock. The Skipper model series remained successful and in production until the 1980's.
