Footnotes

  • The Heuer company had nautical stopwatches and navigation watches in its product portfolio since the 1950's and TAG Heuer today has continued with this tradition very successfully. In addition to motor or winter sports, sailing, power boat racing and generic timing of water sport activities is an important market for a producer of sport chronographs.
An important component of success at the start of a regatta is the timing and position in relation to competitors when crossing the starting line. For this task, accurate timekeeping is required so that the boat can cross the starting line at full tilt at ideal circumstances. The Heuer Skipper provides this capability. Characteristic of the Skipper is the red, white and blue 15-minute sub register and a minute countdown function which eases legibility prior to the start of the race.

Most Skipper models are sharing the Autavia case design. The dial with the characteristic large minute sub-dial was unique to the Skipper. Originally hand-wound powered by the Valjoux 7730 an automatic watch was added in 1972, driven by the new Calibre 15 automatic movement. The Skipper model series remained successful and in production until the 1980's. This watch is in wonderful condition and still has its Heuer racing strap and signed buckle.
