Jewelled lever movement signed 'Rolex Perpetual Chronometer Super Balance, refinished silvered dial with applied baton hour markers, gold hands, outer date ring in blue with central date hand, apertures for day and month, subsidiary dial for phases of the moon combined with running seconds, the large polished and brushed circular case with calendar buttons in the band, downturned lugs, snap on numbered case back, fitted leather strap, case, dial and movement signed

Footnotes

  • Rolex produced two different models of moonphase wristwatches, the reference 8171 and 6062. The reference 8171 has a snap on back, while the reference 6062 is waterproof, and has a screw down crown and back.

    The reference 8171 was made in a very small series between 1949 and 1952 mainly in yellow gold and some example in stainless steel.

    This watch was purchased in the early 1950's by the present owners father.
