Footnotes

  • The same model as this was worn by the famous racing driver Graham Hill which can be seen on his wrist during a BBC interview (see illustration). In 1972 Heuer decided to go for a large promotion in the USA together with cigarette brand Viceroy. After buying a packet of Viceroys you could send in a coupon and receive a Heuer Autavia for one third of the retail price.

The Viceroy Autavia used a Tachymeter bezel instead of the MH bezel. The promotion was well received and to keep up with supply and demand a second case supplier Schmitz was brought in, using a more domed case back design. This new old stock watch has a Schmitz case and the rare original MH bezel which was sold in few numbers as the price was three times higher than the basically identical Viceroy Autavia.

The watch comes with its box and papers and is in wonderful condition and still retains its Heuer sticker on the case back.
