Footnotes

  • The first edition of Chaucer's collected works printed in roman type. John Urry began work on the edition as early as 1711, and after his death in 1715 final revisions were made by Timothy and William Thomas, with a life of Chaucer by John Dart. It also includes a comparative study of existing manuscript texts, a lengthy glossary explaining obsolete words, and the addition of previously unpublished works attributed to Chaucer, such as Gamelyn and The Tale of Beryn.
