A famille rose rectangular plaque
Painted by Tian Hexian, dated 1944
Brightly and richly enamelled with a myriad of pink plum blossoms bursting from spindly leafless branches of a curling gnarled tree, a long inscription at the right side, fitted box.
38.5cm x 24.5cm (15¼in x 9¾in) (2).

    Purchased from Peter Wain in March 2002

    The inscription records that it is painted after the Yuan Master Wang Mian. It is inscribed with a poem and dated 1944.

    Tian Hexian was famous for his painting of prunus in a strong vigorous way. He was a member of the 'Eight Friends of Zhushan'.
