Of compressed globular form, with high shoulders rising to the flat inverted rim, raised on three tapering supports, the shoulders incised with an inscription, wood stand. 12.6cm (5in) diam. (2).

    The base of the present incense burner is cast with qian qing gong mark (Palace of Heavenly Purity). The palace was constructed in 1420 during the early Ming Dynasty and was rebuilt in 1798 during the Jiaqing period. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties the Emperor lived and handled political affairs in this palace. In the Qing Dynasty after an Emperor died, his coffin was kept in the qian qing gong, to prove that he had died peacefully.
