The form of the present dish draws inspiration from earlier Song to Ming Dynasty ceramic and lacquer wares. A related bronze 'chrysanthemum' saucer-dish, with apocryphal Xuande six-character mark, attributed to the 18th century, is exhibited in the British Museum, no. OA 1985.5-10.1.
