A rare and impressive lapis lazuli 'phoenix' vase and cover
Qing Dynasty
The mythical bird finely carved with its head turned towards the back, holding a lingzhi fungus sprig in its beak, its wings with S-shaped scrolling feathers enclosing archaistic scrolls, standing on two feet with sharp talons and with a long tail, carrying on its back a vase carved with a bat on stiff leaves and geometric designs, with a chilong dragon clambering atop the vase, surmounted by a similarly carved cylindrical splayed cover with a phoenix perched on its top, wood stand.
