Labelled Made by Benjamin Banks, Catherine-Street, Sarum, 17--; branded Banks three times on lower rib, Length of back 739mm (29 1/8in) upper bouts 350mm., lower bouts 439mm.,the model Amatise, of a golden orange brown colour, skilful minor repairs, in modern lined and fitted hard case. (2)

    The same publication also states... "His (Banks) cellos are particularly successful, sometimes made after a late model of Stradivari, but the most sought-after are those of the Amati type. The varnish is usually exceptionally fine, ranging from a deep crimson to a delicate golden orange."

    The above cello has been in the family of the present vendor for some eighty years.
