A late Roman to early Byzantine bronze steelyard
Circa 4th-6th Century A.D.
The main bar of rectangular cross-section incised with lines for measuring, domed terminals at each end, one hook attached for suspension from above and two hanging below, with a separately made hinged loop with two hanging chains, each with a sharp hook at the end and another s-shaped hook with iron deposits, 16 7/8in (42.8cm) length of bar
