Footnotes

  • For this portrait of the famous American dancer Josephine Baker, Sally and Vanessa have taken inspiration from the Swiss designer Jean Dunand who was famous for his lacquer works in the 1920s. Josephine had a cult following in Paris, where Dunand was based, at the time largely down to her exotic dances and unique style. This particular design is featured on one of his screens.
