LITERATURE: A.E. Duffey, Anton van Wouw: The Smaller Works, (Pretoria, 2008), Massa casting illustrated p.61
"Van Wouw was very fond of this figurine and considered it his best work. He worked for nine months on [it]...He has displayed his excellent knowledge of anatomy (realism) and texture detail, but the whole sculpture displays a use of closed and open triangles. On the whole it can be simplified to total abstraction." (Ibid.)
Van Wouw used the same model for the Laughing Basuto.
