'Landing fish' signed 'C. Napier Hemy' and dated 1886 (lower right), inscribed on reverse oil on canvas 50.8 x 76.2cm (20 x 30in).
This picture shows St Mawes Castle in the background and is a particularly good example of the delight Hemy took in painting the water under the boat. He has also used his favourite sea men as models - they turn up again and again in his paintings, as when the weather was bad he paid them to pose as models in their fishing gear in his studio.
We are grateful to Margaret Powell for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.
