A mirror backed Builder's half model, SS Leonatus 1903.
Hull of solid timber, painted black to the waterline and pink below, with a four blade, brass propeller. Painted decks with inscribed plank and plate lines, metal guardrails and stanchions. Details include anchors and windlass, cargo winches, open bridge with binnacle, ventilators, ship's boats on davits. Aft emergency steering position. Mounted on to a varnished and front mirrored backboard, with an inscribed plaque for Richardson, Duck and Co. 81x9.5x20in (206x24x51cm) case

  • The SS Leonatus, was launched in 1903 for the Crossburn SS Co.Ltd. On December 12th 1917, fitted as an armed merchant collier, she was torpedoed by U40 without loss of life and sunk, 2 miles off Kirkabister Lighthouse, Shetland Islands, en route for Lerwick.
