Footnotes

  • The SS Tamaroa was built by Harland and Wolfe in Belfast and launched in 1921 for the Aberdeen Line. Originally named Sophocles, she changed her name when chartered to Shaw Saville Line in 1926. Employed in service between Southampton and New Zealand, she was converted to a Troopship during WWII and assisted in the evacuation of Dunkirk. Returning to the New Zealand route after the war, she was scrapped in 1957 at the Hughes Bolco yard in Blythe.
