Lot Details
A late 18th century Swiss gold and pink enamelled box,
with prestige marks; a maker's mark of L F T, a charge mark similar to that of Julian Alaterre, a date letter 'K' and a discharge mark similar to that of Julian Berthe, also with later French control marks,
the cover set with a panel of a young mother with a dove in an idyllic landscape with a child at her feet, within a chased and enamelled leaf and berry frame on a puce transluscent enamel ground with similar leaf and berry border, the sides with panels of puce enamel within opaque white enamel borders separated by leaf garland-hung pilasters, length 7.3cm.

Footnotes

  • The maker LFT was prolific, often copying the style of Jean-Joseph Barrière. Though apparently authentic, his 'prestige' marks always include anomalies; for example, the charge and discharge marks do not conform.

The present lot was with Wartski 1954.
