A Louis XV vari-colour gold snuff box,
by Jacques Nicolas Trumeau, with the charge and discharge marks of Julian Alaterre, Paris 1772,
of oval form, the cover set with a 19th century enamel portrait plaque possibly attributable to Henry Bone, the sitter possibly Miguel Cervantes, with a relief rocaille frame set into a four-colour gold floral garland border flanked by gently wavy engine-turned panels with a yellow gold acanthus edge, the side with similar engine-turned panels separated by garland-hung pilasters between acanthus bands, the base similar, length 8.4cm, weight all-in 166.6gms.
