Footnotes

  • A salon suite of the present model, upholstered with the same tapestry, sold Christie's London, 21 March 2002, lot 293 (£80,750).

Probably part of the incomplete set previously sold (see above), these three fauteuils could be part of the salon suite index no 1360, commissioned circa 1909 by the London businessman Elias Meyer for his drawing room at 16 Grosvenor Square, London.
The photographs of the interior views of Mr and Mrs Elias Meyer's house are reproduced by Christopher Payne in his book and the fauteuils, covered with the same upholstery, can be seen in situ (p.243).

According to François Linke's daybook this suite of seats was made first for Elias Meyer in 1909 and for Bruël in 1912. As underlined by Christopher Payne, the Meyer suite was re-purchased by Linke and part was sold to Yossifoglu in 1931, using the client's own tapestry.
