    Zacharias Johannes (Zach) de Beer (1928-1999) was the leader of the Progressive Federal Party in South Africa and its successor, the Democratic Party, from 1987 until 1994. Following his resignation from the party, he was appointed South African ambassador to the Netherlands by Nelson Mandela. He was also a director of the Anglo American PLC/De Beers diamond mining conglomerate for many years.
