  Major Robert Allan Gus Lyons served in the 16th Canadian Scottish Battalion during World War I and was stationed in France. By the time he retired from the army in 1924 he had been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the Military Cross and the Croix de Guerre. During his life Major Lyons was also elected to the provincial parliament of British Columbia for one term in 1924 and served as President of The Distillers Corporation of Canada from 1954 until his retirement in 1956.
