'I saw these sailors on the Hoe last summer, looking absolutely sparkling in their uniforms, and stored them away in my mind until something came along to complete the picture. Then one night we were coming back from the Phoenix in Union Street and saw two girls being followed by some young sailors shouting "Are you virgins?". The question grew louder and louder, so did the giggles from the girls, and to my regret we never learned the answer.'
