A ryo takahimo do tosei gusoku armour
Mid Edo Period, 18th-19th century
The thirty-two-plate russet iron suji bachi kabuto with a gilt tehen kanamono, an itamono ko manju jikoro the fukigaeshi leather covered with gilt fukurin and choji mon, on the front a maedate of a wood shikami. A russet iron menpo with long hair moustache. The roku mai ryo takahimo do constructed of both leather and iron plates opening on both sides and fitted with renjaku cords, the front plates of the do fitted with extra plates which cover the urugi ito of the kusazuri, the front plate of the do with a coiled dragon in red and gold. Black lacquered gyoyo with gilt mon, black lacquered tsubo sode hinged vertically, shino gote, shino haidate and shino suneate and laced overall in dark blue sugake odoshi. Complete with two armour boxes with the mon in gold, one retaining its leather cover.
