Footnotes

  • The first edition in English, translated by H.E. Lloyd from the German, of Kotzebue's classic voyage. Sponsored by Count Romanzoff and led by Kotzebue, this was the second Russian expedition into the Pacific for scientific exploration. They rounded Cape Horn, visiting Chile, Easter Island, and the Marshall Islands before exploring the North American coast and Hawaii, and searched unsuccessfully for a passage to the Arctic Ocean.
