EXHIBITED: National Museum of Stockholm, 1944 Den unga expressionismen Svenskt maleri 1909-1920
This work is accompanied by a first edition book on Isaac Grünewald edited by J.P. Hodin and also comes with original certificates, and a catalogue of an exhibition of the artist's work.
The theme of the tree was always significant for Grünewald; perhaps his most famous work was The Singing tree of 1915, an image of which was at one time used on Sweden's postage stamps. The tree depicted here may have been painted before The Singing tree and is a significant addition to Grünewald's oeuvre.
