  'Sketch made by Sir John Millais Bart PRA about the year 1853 in illustration of the type of English beauty according to the manner of John Leech - of 'Punch' & of whose touch & execution it is an imitation, & a very close. The property of WW Fenn Esqre. [1863] 15 Great Marlborough St W/ who saw it done'.
  
  Millais has signed the drawing with his characteristic M monogram, but has interwoven into it the cursive L of Leech's signature as a witty reference to his source.
