Footnotes

  • Ehsai's striking depiction of semi-abstract red calligraphy ripples sensually across the jet-black void creating a complex visual maze on the canvas. Ehsai's broad fluid brushstrokes and sensitive depictions are laden with spiritual meaning due to the artist's deep seated spiritual background. The shadows rendered on the calligraphy add further depth to the piece which is an early example of the type of monumental works executed by the artist in more recent times.

This work was exhibited alongside others paintings by Ehsai at Galerie Cyrus in Paris in 1975 and this work featured on the cover of the exhibition catalogue.

    Exhibited:
    Galerie Cyrus, Paris, 1975.
