A Fine suite of Louis XVI mahogany armchairs
by Georges Jacob, Maître in 1765
comprising a pair of bergeres and four fauteuils, the rectangular backs with beaded and shutter carved frames surmounted by lobed finials and flanked by columns, the arms with overlapping leaf carved baluster supports, the bowed seats on plain turned tapered legs with lobed and lambrequin carved collars, each chair stamped G.JACOB, (6)

  • Georges Jacob (1739-1814) was the founder of the Jacob dynasty. Maître menuisier in 1765, he established his workshop in rue de Cléry and in 1775, rue Meslée in Paris. He was one of the main suppliers to the Royal Court until the French Revolution.
