Footnotes

  • Literature:
    TV is King, M B-L, 1994, p.8-9

This set is unique and exceptional in both design and condition.

Apart from the radio and turntable, no other makers marks are visible on outside and inside of the cabinet or the chassis. RGD is probable, but unproven.

The circuit and layout design are typical of the period of 1936-37. Manufacturers were able to constantly make improvements on the original television technology, as a direct result of transmissions from Alexandra Palace. Dating televisions therefore is a simple process as circuit layouts differ due to these year on year advancements.

This early model is distinct due to the unusual CRT position. It is unheard for the tube be mounted in the horizontal position, as the vertical the mirror-in-lid format utilised less space.

Therefore, it has to be concluded that this was a commissioned set created to be placed in a specific space/ location within a room, or possibly, that this was a prototype, created so the makers could decide whether to manufacture sets with the tube horizontally or vertically.

Either way, this is the only known set to use this format presenting the features it has.
