Footnotes

  • The fitting and decoration of Abney Hall was Pugin's last major commission, and was secured though his friend J.G Crace. The hall was extensively re-decorated in the mid 1850's to accomodate a visit from HRH Prince Albert. The fire dogs can be seen in later photographs standing either side of the magnificent drawing room fire place. In the late 1950's Abney Hall was put up for sale, and the contents of the Hall were then sold in a mammoth auction held bewtween 17-28 March 1958.
