Footnotes

  • Heath signed himself "Paul Pry" after a stage character. In the cartoons the fashions and foibles of the period are matched by accurate renderings of packet boats, scenery and tourist attractions. Amongst early paddle steamers depicted are the "Dart" 1823, and the "Magnet" 1826, of the General Steam Navigation Company.
