Orange Opal and Carnelian Necklace together with 3 Pairs of Earrings
A unique necklace featuring a clasp designed by wire-wrap artist, Naomi Hinds, whose work has been previously sold in our Natural History auctions (December 2008). Centering on a cross-section slice of an opal nodule from Ethiopia known in the mineral hobby as a "knobby" which exhibits brilliant flashes of orange at the center of the ironstone matrix, set within a wire-wrap frame of sterling silver, suspending five strands of brilliant orange faceted carnelian beads in two sizes, length 17in. Offered together with a pair of fire opal, peridot and butterfly wing earrings—each double-sided pendant set with a real butterfly wing from the South American species known as the "double rainbow" butterfly due to its brilliant coloration in green, blue and orange. The delicate butterfly wings are protected between 2 pieces of thin, clear glass-like material and meticulously set in sterling silver and suspended from faceted connector beads of bright orange Mexican fire opal and peridot; together with a pair of briolette-faceted Mexican fire opal bead earrings and a pair of Brazilian Imperial topaz, peridot and rock crystal quartz earrings.
