This cabinet specimen is both attractive and mineralogically interesting; it is exceedingly rare to obtain a complete pocket from a mineand thus, it presents a fascinating view of the formation of rhodochrosite crystals within their context. Flat, bright pink, slightly etched rhombic plates of rhodochrosite nestle in a polyhedral pocket lined with fine white quartz crystals, while tiny complex pyrite crystals cover one face. The main rhodochrosite crystal measures more than 1 inch across.
