Rock Crystal Quartz Carving on Serpentine Marble Base

This transparent-to-translucent carving depicts two bearded male figures entwined in a wrestling hold; the upside-down figure wears a crown on his head and depicts Hercules wearing his lion skin cape, which forms part of the statue, and Diomedes. This sculpture was probably inspired by the Renaissance marble version in Florence. The light green serpentine base is carved as a block on a pedestal, signed L.G. Lamb , carving measures 12 ¾ x 5 ½ x 5 in; base measures 7 ¼ x 7 x 5 ¾ in
