Two Ammonites, one Iridescent
Alberta, Canada, and possibly Morocco
Ammonites are invertebrate fossils, from extinct relatives of the chambered nautilus. They were named for their resemblance to coiled ram's horns. One is a fairly complete smooth-shelled brown ammonite from Canada, showing natural iridescence (in red, orange, and green) on both sides, 6 x 5 ½ x 1 ½ in. The other is a sliced half of an ammonite in limestone, showing the many internal chambers and a re-crystalized core,
7 ¼ x 6 ¼ x 1 ¾ in (2)
