[4], xiv, [5]-816; 728, [6] pp. Illustrated with engraved frontispiece in first volume and 100 engraved plates, 25 of which are folding. 4to (265 x 210 mm). Period full diced tan calf, rebacked, gilt-lettered spine. Stamp and brief notation to title and subsequent leaf in each volume, some plates with foxing as usual, new endpapers, spines dry, joints cracking, some shelfwear.

Includes much on the Pacific voyages of Cook, Wilson, La Perouse, Vancouver, Bligh, etc., and many plates after the John Webber drawings for Cook's voyages. A popular work with a difficult-to-discern publishing history. Cf. Forbes 338.
